Most of us are in the auto-pilot mode, round the clock. We just momentarily wake up and put ourselves into the trail of daily tasks and continue doing the same until night. Don’t you think we need to just slow down a little bit and be mindful? ” Mindfulness” just means, focus on everything you do and concentrate on most of it and understand the benefit of it by enjoying it.
It may sound tough, but it is easy to do it, with practice. You can be mindful in many ways in your everyday life. You don’t have to start doing for the whole day, but you can start by minimally investing in just a few minutes out of your day. Just pause a minute or two and feel it. Once you keep doing the same, then you gradually put yourself in a habit of doing it much more and eventually, you become an expert in it.
Let us take a look at how you can bring in yourself to practice mindfulness effectively with your everyday life routine :
Start by Waking up with a Mindfulness
Most of us, wake up to the alarms and then start browsing through mobile phones. We have forgotten how it is like waking up to a peaceful atmosphere, the fresh air we breathe, the prayers and also mindful breathing. Just switch from your autopilot mode and then wake up to a fresh morning, sit upright with your eyes closed and breath and breath out. Focus on your breathing and the set your mind for an aimful day. Try telling your self or answering to your self, what exactly you want to do today, or what new you want to try. Try to focus on exactly what you want your mind should work on etc. Just take in long breathes and breath out. And yes make sure that you keep a check on whether you are doing it right throughout the day – like a self-assessment.
Eating healthy and rightly is also an important factor for a healthy mind. Most of us are in a hustle and bustle. Busy all the time running around. We just grab a plate, eat whatever is served, forgetting to savour the taste. Mindful eating will help you even savour the taste and aroma of your food being served. Not only that, but it also augments healthy digestion. Do eat only when you are hungry, that is when you enable your mind and body to be healthy and in sync. Take occasional breaks, do not just hog your food, practice timely breaks and let your food digest well. Also, try to enjoy the flavours, texture and taste of your food and make a mindful choice.
Let your mind wander
Our mind is more like a crawling baby, never still. Mindfulness also arrives when you can bring back your mind to the normal after letting it fly high or wander around. It is not easy as you read, it is indeed difficult to get through it.
Keep it short and simple
You need not try mindfulness for a whole part of your day, you can do it even if it is just a matter of 5 minutes or so or even lesser. Like take a break for a moment, and then feel the aroma of your coffee, sipping in the warm flow of the liquid on your tongue and into your tummy. Take time to cherish such small things, rather than just trying for a whole lot of time. Every small gesture counts.
Practice Mindfulness while you Wait
This busy culture of ours, waiting seems quite hard. When you see the long queue for waiting, it just makes you sigh and frustrated. Turn that sigh into a smile, with just mindful thinking. It is time to observe the mind and your soul at that time. Even take time to observe things around you, observe tiny moments, or anything on which you have not taken time out for, during the whole day.
Try Mindful Listening
Listening just strengthen the relations and also builds bonds beyond thinking. We all are in a world, where even we don’t find time out to listen to the nature around us. Imagine not having someone to listen to your blabbering thoughts, is sickening. Why don’t you try mindful listening? Be a listener. You might end up strengthening the bonds of your relationship and also learn a much more while listening. Pay attention to everything that the person speaks to you, even the person. Understand the emotions, body language and offer your full attention. It is also important to resist the urge to speak before the person stops saying. Stay present in your moment during any conversation.
Try to Meditate for Mindfulness
Meditation is always your gateway to your mind, to connect with yourself. Mindfulness is all about knowing yourself in greater depths. It may not be easy to start with, but worth a try always. Meditation helps to cultivate mindfulness more healthily. In a way, mindfulness will make your brain much more effective and efficient.
To Conclude :
Practice mindfulness from the very simple activities you do, like savouring a piece of chocolate, watering a plant, enjoying a walk in the park etc. It takes effort and practice, your mind might slip away multiple times. But again every time you practice bringing it back, it is your victory.
Hence practice until you get better at it. This will eventually reduce your stress, you attain better mental health and even better relationships.
